Sanand seat of Ahmedabad district remains special in itself. This seat comes under Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency whose MP is Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the last few elections, there has been a tough fight between the BJP and the Congress. In the two elections held before this election, once the BJP and once the Congress had won. This seat came into existence after the delimitation in 2008.
In this election, BJP had given ticket to Kanubhai Patel here. Kanubhai defeated Ramesh Patel of INC by 35,369 votes.
BJP had registered victory in 2017 elections
The ruling BJP had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections as well. BJP candidate Kanubhai Patel defeated Pushpaben Dabhi of Congress by a margin of 7000 votes. A total of 14 candidates were in the fray in this election, out of which the deposits of 11 candidates were forfeited.
Here the BJP has a close fight with the Congress
Even though the BJP had won here in the 2017 elections, the Congress had won in the 2012 elections. Then Congress Karamsibhai Patel was successful in registering victory. He defeated Kamabhai Rathod of BJP by more than 4000 votes.
The political importance of this seat can be gauged from the fact that Amit Shah himself attended the nomination of Kanubhai Patel. For the 2022 elections, BJP had given ticket to its sitting MLA Kanubhai Karamshibhai Patel only. At the same time, Congress had fielded Ramesh Patel on this seat. Kuldeepsinh Dilipsinh Vaghela was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
